Ascend is part of Between Light & Shadow, a fine art photography series created with Shawnie during our first shoot together in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Photographed within the narrow lines of a quiet stairwell, Shawnie reaches upward as her figure moves between deep shadow and soft available light. The architecture frames her almost like a sculpture, while the upward movement gives the image a feeling of strength, progression, and transformation.

This session was the beginning of a creative relationship that has continued through several shoots since. Shawnie was the first model Nina and I worked with after arriving in Playa del Carmen, and discovering our shared connections to Atlanta and Los Angeles made that first collaboration feel unexpectedly familiar.

Ascend captures one moment from that beginning: movement emerging from darkness, reaching toward what comes next.

All prints are presented on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Giclée paper.

Frames are solid wood from sustainable sources, manufactured to high standards.
