Threshold is part of Between Light & Shadow, a fine art photography series created with model Shawnie aka Pivot Pixie in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Shawnie was the first model Nina and I photographed after arriving in Playa del Carmen. What started as a new creative connection quickly became strangely familiar. We discovered that she was also from Atlanta and that our circles even crossed with some of the same people back in Los Angeles.

This photograph came from one of those first sessions.

Working with the existing architecture and very little light, I wanted the shadows to shape the image as much as the subject herself. Her pose rises through the stairwell while small areas of light reveal just enough form, creating a photograph that feels quiet, sculptural, and slightly mysterious.

Shawnie has since become someone we’ve photographed several times, making this series the beginning of an ongoing creative relationship.

All prints are presented on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Giclée paper.

Frames are solid wood from sustainable sources, manufactured to high standards.
