Stillness is part of Between Light & Shadow, a fine art photography series created with model Shawnie in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Shawnie was the first model Nina and I photographed after arriving in Playa del Carmen. We quickly discovered that our paths had crossed in unexpected ways. She was originally from Atlanta, like us, and we even shared connections with some of the same people back in Los Angeles.

This series came from that first session.

Working within a quiet stairwell and using only small pockets of available light, I wanted the shadows to become part of the composition. In Stillness, Shawnie’s form emerges gradually from the darkness, creating an image that feels sculptural, calm, and intimate.

There is very little distraction in the frame. The architecture, light, and human form work together to create a moment that feels suspended in time.

Shawnie and I have worked together several times since this photograph was created, but Between Light & Shadow remains the beginning of that creative relationship.

All prints are presented on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Giclée paper.

Frames are solid wood from sustainable sources, manufactured to high standards.
